Great coffee first. The "function" is an ingredient we roast in — not a promise we make about it.
Functional coffee is coffee that contains an active ingredient beyond caffeine. The ingredient is intended to add a specific quality to the drink — not to treat or prevent any condition. Common functional coffee ingredients include hemp extract, mushroom powder, collagen, and adaptogens. Sträva uses broad-spectrum hemp extract, added during the roasting process.
What Makes Sträva a Functional Coffee
Sträva starts with single-origin Colombian coffee beans, roasted in small batches. Broad-spectrum hemp extract is infused during the roasting process, not added as a powder or oil afterward. The result is a coffee that tastes like specialty coffee — because it is one — with hemp extract present in every cup. Available in 100mg, 250mg, 500mg, and 1250mg per bag.
Specialty coffee, not a supplement in disguise
Single-origin Colombian, roasted small-batch. If we handed you the bag with no label, you'd drink it as a great cup of coffee. The hemp extract doesn't change that — it rides along with it.
Infused in the roast, not stirred in after
Most "added-ingredient" coffees blend a powder or dose an oil into the cup. We introduce broad-spectrum hemp extract during roasting, so it's carried in the bean — even, consistent, and not something floating on top.
You pick the amount
Four strengths per bag: 100mg, 250mg, 500mg, and 1250mg of hemp extract. Same coffee, same roast — you choose how much hemp extract comes with it.
What's Actually in the Bag
The active ingredient in Sträva's functional coffee is nroad-spectrum hemp extract. "Full-spectrum" means the extract carries the range of naturally occurring compounds from the hemp plant, except for any THC. It's the same plant family as CBD coffee — hemp extract is what makes a coffee "CBD coffee" in the first place.
We're specific about it on purpose. A functional coffee is only as honest as its label: a named ingredient, a stated amount, and a clear answer to "how did it get in here?" Ours is broad-spectrum hemp extract, listed in milligrams, infused during the roast. That's the whole story, and we'd rather tell it plainly than dress it up.
Functional Coffee, by Ingredient
“Functional coffee” is a category, not a single product. What sets each one apart is the active ingredient — and whether the roaster will tell you exactly what it is.
| Type | Active ingredient | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Hemp / CBD coffee (Sträva) | Broad-spectrum hemp extract | An extract from the hemp plant carrying its naturally occurring compounds. In Sträva’s case, infused during roasting and measured in mg per bag. |
| Mushroom coffee | Functional mushroom powder or extract (lion’s mane, chaga, cordyceps) | Powdered or extracted mushrooms blended into ground coffee or instant coffee. |
| Adaptogenic coffee | Adaptogens (e.g. ashwagandha, rhodiola) | Plant and herb extracts added to the coffee, usually as a powder. |
| Collagen coffee | Collagen peptides | A protein powder stirred or blended into the coffee. |
How to Choose a Functional Coffee
Look for three things: a named active ingredient with a stated dosage (not a vague “wellness blend”), a base coffee you would drink on its own, and a roaster who is transparent about the infusion process. Avoid products that use the word “functional” as marketing language without specifying what is in the coffee or how much.

✔️ Named ingredient + dosage
e.g. “250mg full-spectrum hemp extract,” not “wellness blend”

✔️ A coffee worth drinking on its own
Single-origin, real roast, not a flavor cover-up
Questions & Answers
Functional Coffee Questions
What is functional coffee?+
Functional coffee is coffee that contains an active ingredient beyond caffeine, such as hemp extract, mushroom powder, collagen, or adaptogens. The added ingredient is meant to give the drink a specific quality — it is not intended to treat or prevent any condition.
Is CBD coffee a functional coffee?+
Yes. CBD coffee is a functional coffee whose active ingredient is hemp extract. Sträva uses broad-spectrum hemp extract, infused during roasting and measured in milligrams per bag.
What’s the difference between functional coffee and regular coffee?+
Regular coffee is brewed from coffee beans and water alone. Functional coffee adds a named active ingredient beyond caffeine. Sträva’s functional coffee is single-origin Colombian coffee with broad-spectrum hemp extract roasted in.
How is Sträva’s functional coffee made?+
Sträva roasts single-origin Colombian beans in small batches and infuses broad-spectrum hemp extract during the roasting process — not as a powder or oil added afterward. The hemp extract is carried in the bean, so it’s present in every cup.
Does functional coffee still have caffeine?+
Yes. Functional coffee is still coffee, so it contains the caffeine that naturally comes from the beans. The active ingredient — in Sträva’s case, broad-spectrum hemp extract — is separate from the caffeine.
How much hemp extract is in Sträva’s functional coffee?+
Sträva offers four strengths: 100mg, 250mg, 500mg, and 1250mg of broad-spectrum hemp extract per bag. The coffee and roast are the same across all four — only the amount of hemp extract changes.
Functional coffee vs. mushroom coffee — what’s the difference?+
Both are functional coffees; the difference is the active ingredient. Mushroom coffee uses functional mushroom powder or extract, while Sträva’s functional coffee uses broad-spectrum hemp extract infused during the roast.
